Why me
The deviationMost developers have only ever been developers. I spent eight years on the other side of the table — running a company, carrying a P&L, hiring people, and answering to a bank rather than to a ticket queue.
Then I automated that company until it no longer needed me in it. Stock, orders, fulfilment, reporting: all of it running on systems I built, so the business kept working while I did something else.
That’s the difference. Projects rarely fail because nobody could write the code. They fail in the gap between what the business asked for and what got built. I’ve stood on both sides of that gap, and these days I sell enterprise technology for a living too — so I can talk to your finance director about what a system costs to run, and to your sysadmin about how it’s going to run, in the same meeting.
